Edo 2024: Former UN scribe wants PDP to improve selection process to strengthen democracy

A former United Nations Undersecretary General, who was also a one-time Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Speaking with The Guardian in Benin, the Edo state capital, after the PDP Primary, Uhomoibhi said; “In our Political selection process, we should take into cognisance, the excellence, experience, background and integrity of whoever we are entrusting with the leadership of our dear state.”

“We are at the bottom of the ladder today, because in the selection process of who leads our state, we do not focus on those that have the ability and capability to change our narrative.

“If you put a bouffon in office, all that you eventually get, is bouffonry, and no amount of prayers nor fastings will make the difference.”

Uhomoibhi continued: “we are the architects of our fortunes or misfortunes, as we make our beds, so shall we lie on it.”

“The antecedents of what happened today, is what really matters, though we are on a journey of Democracy, what we saw today, though not perfect, but what is more important, is for us to resolve that we must make progress. We must therefore, all ensure that the right thing is done at the right time, so as to make our state a model for other states, as we have no other state, but Edo state.

Uhomoibhi  added that; “Contrary to the insinuation of some people, that I will not be present at the Primary, I chose to attend. I am an ardent believer in the power of God Almighty. For me, the end is what really matters, and I don’t start a journey, only to cutoff midway.”
