Edo communities clash over land

map-edoThere is a brewing tension between Iguomon community and their Ikhuonbo neighbours, both in Uhunmwode local council of Edo State over the ownership of a parcel of land.

Apparently in the bid to avert communal crisis,‎ the Iguomon community has called on the security agencies to wade into the matter by enforcing the decision of the courts, from the state High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, which all affirmed that Iguomon owns the land in dispute.

The Guardian gathered yesterday that the crisis has been raging since 1987, though the court processes were concluded at the apex court in 2006.

Vice Chairman of the Iguomon Youth Association, Stanley Osazee, expressed gratitude to the governor, Adams Oshiomhole and the state Commissioner of Police for taking prompt action to check the breakdown of law and order when some of them were attacked when they wanted to take possession of the land recently.

The Iguomon community claimed that early in May 2016, they applied for a warrant of possession and the Edo State Chief Judge granted the community a warrant of possession to take charge of the land.
