Edo government seeks collective efforts against spread of COVID-19

Edo State Government has solicited the support of all residents in the state in containing the spread of coronavirus, as it intensifies efforts to stem the second wave of the pandemic.

State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who disclosed this in Benin City, blamed the steady rise in the number of confirmed cases in the state on poor compliance to guidelines.

Obi reassured the government’s commitment to curbing the spread of the virus and urged persons with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.

His words: “We appeal to all residents in the state to complement the state government’s efforts at ensuring the health and safety of all citizens by complying with government’s guidelines against the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.

“It is discouraging that while the government steps up measures to protect residents against the deadly virus, some persons disregard the directives, thereby endangering the lives of others.

“We admonish residents to adhere to the compulsory use of face masks and other precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus, as government alone cannot win the battle.”

“People should wash their hands regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitisers and observe social distancing.”
