The Edo State Government, operators of Edo City Transport Service, yesterday said plans are on the way to revive the inter-state transit at government-subsidised rates to help cushion the current high transportation rates across the country.

The Managing Director of the agency, Festus Ehimua, said this during a media briefing in his office recently.

Acknowledging the current hardship occasioned by the high cost of transportation as a result of fuel subsidy removal, Ehimua said the Edo State government is concerned about the welfare of its citizens and working round the clock to address it.

He said: “We met eight Hiace buses, and all were grounded.  We intend to fix them. We have sent two for repairs already, and our estimation is that by February ending or so, those buses will come and we will start inter-state again, gradually.

“However, the governor has promised that he is going to buy us buses and we are sure he is doing something about that, and we will get new buses soon. He has good intentions and that is to give the people of Edo State, a reduced cost of living, and transportation is one of the ways we can mitigate this high cost of living. One of the reasons things are very expensive today is the high cost of transportation.
