Edo journalists for training on modern technology for fact-checking
Ahead of the forthcoming general elections, the Edo State Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), yesterday, kicked off a three-day training of members on the use of technology to counter misinformation and fake news.
Chairman, Edo council of the NUJ, Mr. Fetus Alenkhe, while declaring the training open, commended the foresight of the leadership of the chapel to organise the workshop.
He described the training as timely and apt, as it would equip members on how to debunk information disorder that always characterise election period in the country.
Alenkhe, however, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to synergise with journalists in the state by organising training for media practitioners ahead of the general polls, particularly, with regard to verification of results.
Earlier, in her address, Mrs. Nefishetu Yakubu, Chairman of the chapel, said the aim of the training is to build the capacity of members in deploying technology to counter misinformation that are pervasive on social media platforms.
