Edo Rep Seeks US Partnership On Projects, IDPs In Ovia North East/South West

A member of the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion, has sought partnership with the United States of America (USA) and her agencies to facilitate collaborations on projects to tackle challenges of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ovia North East/South West federal constituency of Edo state.

Speaking when she received representatives of the embassy of the USA in her office at the National Assembly, at the weekend, Igbinedion disclosed that the partnership will enable her constituents benefit from the 2016  ‘Power Africa’ project under the auspices of the Integrated Constituency Development Programmes (ICDP) located in Ovia North East as well as Ovia South West Local Councils.

The lawmaker said the collaboration will also help to intervene in the lives of the over 1,800 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who, she said, are victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.

She said many of the IDPs had died of malnutrition diseases, while others are sick and frustrated due to social exclusion and absence of relief materials.

Igbinedion expressed optimism that the relationship with the embassies of the United States will bring about solutions to some of the key challenges plaguing her constituency and Nigerian in general.

Responding, the US embassy officials, namely Messrs Marlin Hardinger and Robert Wong, both of whom are political officers as well as Mr Ray Hotz, the Economic Officer of the embassy, assured that the US was committed to seeing the end of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.
