The suspended Chairman of Oredo Local Government, Dr. Tom Obaseki, has vowed to challenge the appointment of Igbinigie Osaheni as acting chairman, despite a court order nullifying his suspension.
Obaseki described the move as “superfluous, insidious, and an insult to democracy” and has directed his lawyers to take legal action against Edo Commissioner for Local Government, Dr. Lucky Eseigbe.
His solicitors, Olayiwola Afolabi (SAN) & Co., condemned the commissioner’s actions as an affront to democratic principles.

The Edo State Assembly had suspended all 18 local government chairmen over alleged financial misappropriation and insubordination.
However, Obaseki’s lawyers argue that a court injunction issued by Justice Ikponwonba on Dec. 16 and 20, 2024, recognizes him as the substantive chairman.
They demanded a formal retraction of Osaheni’s appointment within 24 hours, warning of legal consequences for contempt of court.
Obaseki’s solicitors also criticized the commissioner, a lawyer, for allegedly disregarding the rule of law, urging him to uphold judicial orders.
