EdTech Indaba 2025 sets new course for smart learning in Nigeria

The 2025 edition of the EdTech Indaba, themed “Smart Learning for a Smart Future,” brought together key stakeholders in education, technology, and policy on Saturday, 4th October 2025, to examine how digital tools can transform learning in Nigeria.

Organised by Ashpot in collaboration with the Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the one-day summit convened educators, innovators, students, and policymakers to explore ways of integrating technology into classroom learning.

The Convener of the summit, Psalms Kalu, in his opening address, said the initiative was designed to promote collaboration and digital literacy among teachers and learners. He said, “The EdTech Indaba is not just an event — it is a movement. We are building a community of educators who will champion the future of smart learning in Nigeria.”

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, who delivered the keynote address, reaffirmed the Abia State Government’s commitment to the use of technology in schools. He urged teachers to adopt digital tools to improve teaching outcomes and prepare students for future workplace demands.

Among the notable activities at the summit was the unveiling of EarlyStart, a coding application developed to introduce children to programming in an engaging and accessible way. Participants also witnessed a live demonstration of Schoolzy, Ashpot’s school management software, designed to simplify administrative tasks and enhance efficiency in schools.

Breakout sessions covered various topics, including virtual meetings, the use of Google Slides for classroom presentations, and professional networking through LinkedIn for teachers. A quiz competition was also held, with participants receiving technological prizes such as laptops and Wi-Fi routers.

The event attracted broad media attention, with live coverage by Aba-based radio stations Magic FM and Enyimba FM. Both stations conducted on-site interviews and discussions highlighting the role of education technology in improving access and quality.

In a post-event announcement, Kalu disclosed that Ashpot would host a three-week Teachers Digital Literacy Bootcamp to provide educators with hands-on training in digital teaching tools.

The EdTech Indaba is expected to become an annual platform for promoting innovation and digital transformation in Nigeria’s education sector.

Ashpot, organisers of the summit, is a technology firm focused on developing solutions that enhance education, entrepreneurship, and community development. Its flagship products, Schoolzy and EarlyStart, continue to support the digital transformation of learning in schools across the country.
