POPULAR lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Adamawa State, Rickey Tarfa, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and was being detained in Lagos for obstruction.

A reliable source at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja told The Guardian last night that Tarfa had allegedly obstructed officers of the commission from performing their duties by allegedly preventing the arrest of an individual, who has a case to answer with the anti-graft agency.

“There is an individual, possibly Rickey Tarfa’s client, who had a case at Igbosere in Lagos. The court had released him, but because he has another case to answer, our officers made a move to re-arrest him.

“But the Senior Advocate prevented and obstructed his arrest. So, the commission has arrested Tarfa for obstruction and he is being detained at our Lagos office,” the source said.

Commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest to The Guardian on telephone.

“Yes, Rickey Tarfa was arrested. It is true he is being held in the commission’s office in Lagos,” he said without elaborating.

Tarfa is a lawyer with over two decades of experience at the Bar.

He runs a law firm with over 50 lawyers, 30 paralegal and support staff, as well as two retired Judges as consultants-in-chamber.
