The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday interrogated Mrs Toyin Saraki, wife of the Senate President for about six hours over alleged corruption.

Saraki was invited by the Commission for questioning over alleged shady contracts during her husband’s tenure as governor of Kwara between 2003 and 2011.

The invitation was in relation to alleged contracts executed by companies said to be linked to her while her husband was Kwara governor.

Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman of the EFCC confirmed the interrogation of the former Kwara first lady at the Headquarters of the Commission in Abuja.

Uwujaren said “Mrs Saraki was in our office for questioning following an earlier invitation sent to her over allegation of corruption.

“I cannot speak further on the issue because I am currently not in the office and don’t have further details on the questioning.’’

The former first lady in a statement issued by her NGO, Well Being Foundation, after her interrogation, pledged to support and cooperate with the EFCC in ensuring credible investigation into the allegation.

The statement said Saraki had surrendered herself to the EFCC in line with her believe in transparency and accountability.

It is fascinating that the communication team of the anti-graft agency is doing a marvelous job. They have consistently tried to keep the name of impotent agency alive even though it has lost all modicum of self and in its present composition can rightly be described as not fit for purpose. After this highly publicised and celebrated invite of Saraki’s wife by the agency for alleged corruption and a subsequent 6 HOUR interrogation, what next? She is not the only high profile figure that has been invited by the EFCC for interrogation in recent months. It is all turning into a charade, a travesty and an unbridled mockery of pursuing a serious national malaise of endemic corruption. The president two days ago explained why it is important that investigations into alleged corruption are conducted in a professional and meticulous manner. We are not going expect co-operation from any advanced country in repatriating our looted funds if we don’t have our facts and evidence right. If the EFCC thinks they have any evidence to invite Saraki’s wife and start connecting her name to alleged fraud, then they should hand such evidence to their legal team and proceed to the court of law to prosecute. Once upon a time, there was a gentleman called Malam Ribadu who was plucked out from obscurity to head an anti-graft body called the EFCC. In his watch, the news flash ‘’EFCC interrogates Mrs Saraki over alleged corruption’’ would have given us something to be excited about. The only man on record that Chief, Dr., honourable, sir; James Ibori could not buy over. Other than the news flash and sensationalism surrounding this alleged invite, the question Nigerians want to ask is; what next? We may not hear anything else about it for another 4 years when she will come out to contest for the governorship of Kwara State. The EFCC should know that Nigerians are getting fed up with these bogus
and endless invites left, right and centre and not any being taken to court. We know that EFCC is fund of bungling their cases leading to some funny acquittals and discharge even where there are glaring cases of corruption.
They cannot even use the law of the land to protect their credible witnesses. The president can start to show us the
sterner stuff he is made of by swiftly doing away or alternatively re-organizing this incompetent anti-graft agency and its twin sister the ICPC so they can use all the legal assets of the state to go after the rogues wherever they may be. We are fed up with bogus news flash with no substance. Nigerians will prefer to be told when these crooks have been prosecuted, convicted and send down to the chillers for lengthy period. It is only then we will give EFCC
a pat on the back for a work well done.

What the heck is the EFCC. It has never successfully recovered anything of worth to justify their constitution, so why are we wasting our national resources funding this disfunctional group of incompetent buffoons?

EFCc a personal tool of the president.
I believe EFCC was not created today, it had been in existence for more than a decade, a period within which Mrs Saraki purportedly committed that crime. Am suprised that the commission suddenly wokeup to investigate or interrogate her simply because the husband emerged as the new senate president.

I had rather be concerned about results than any instigated and/or on-going actions. Of what use is all that noise without reasonable outcome? We want results and not unnecessary news flashes. Enough of the hullaballoos! In fact, I am beginning to think these news flashes are a deliberate insult to our collective intellect. The EFCC and ICPC should as a matter of fact be investigated for failing to provide value for the millions of Naira spent on them. It is even questionable having both commissions in the same country; aren’t economic and financial crimes corrupt practices, also???

Assuming this woman turns out to be guilty of all these allegations and accusations, how will these legislators feel?
