Following series of defeats suffered by Sunshine Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League, the Technical Adviser, Coach Austin Eguavoen, has tendered his resignation letter to the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA).

The management, in a statement in Akure by the Media Officer, Mr. Chris Okunnuwa, lauded the former coach for his contributions. The club has appointed the club’s former assistant coach, Akin Olowookere as the interim Head Coach alongside Coach Ogunderu Boye.

However, the Secretary of the committee set up by the state government to reposition the agency, Elder Mike Adeyeye, disclosed that the management never had problem with coach Eguavon, saying that he decided to walk away from the team and Nigeria football in general due to poor performance of referees in the league.

Adeyeye noted that the coach had improved the performance of players and the team in general, but left because of the system of officiating matches in favour of some teams.

“He left because of Nigerian referees and he did not complained about us. I sympathise with him. He has left Sunshine and Nigerian Football for good. I don’t see Nigeria Football improve in 10 years, if it continues to be like this. They are stages managing everything in Abuja,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Football Supporters Club (OSFSC) has implored Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to appoint chairman and board members for ODSFA, attributing poor performance to lack of leadership.
