Egypt Junior Open: Nigeria’s Oginni wins opening match

Olasunkanmi Oginni, a National junior whipped his Qatari opponent Ali Mohammed in three straight sets, 11-8,16-14,11-7 to win in their opening match in Cairo.

The match was at the game of the ongoing 2015 Egypt Junior and Cadet Open Championship at the 6th October Sports Hall, Cairo, which served off on Monday.

The delighted Oginni told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was determined to win the opening game.

“I knew that when I win the an opening, it always spurs me to strive work toward sustaining the victory syndrome.

“It is a good start and I am pleased with it. I came here to win medals for myself and my country.

“I hope to keep up the tempo and stick to the instructions of my coaches,” he said.

Ali Mohammed of Qatar, who was obviously disappointed at his loss of the opening match said he was not happy at his performance.

He said he did not anticipate the sad outcome. “I was fully prepared for the tournament, I never thought I could start with this type of result.

“It was a tough match and we both fought hard but the better side won,’’ he said.
