President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, have extended felicitations to Muslims across the country on Eid-el-Fitr, calling for compassion, unity and a renewed commitment to addressing insecurity through both military and non-military approaches.
Also, Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, urged Muslims to sustain prayers for global peace as they mark Eid el-Fitr, warning that escalating geopolitical tensions could further strain economies worldwide.
In the Eid el-Fitr mood, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, and the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, felicitated with Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the globe.
On its part, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) called for an end to killings across the country, describing the increasing bloodletting occasioned by insecurity as a stain on the nation’s collective conscience.
Akpabio, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and urged them to sustain the values of sacrifice, generosity and love for humanity.
“This joyous celebration reminds us of the profound values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity that Eid el-Fitr embodies,” he said. “As you conclude this important exercise of fasting and spiritual reflection, be reminded of the importance of empathy, kindness and generosity towards others, particularly the less privileged.”
In a separate statement, Bamidele noted that the conclusion of Ramadan should reinforce peaceful coexistence, particularly amid recent security concerns, including bomb explosions in Maiduguri.
“At home, Eid el-Fitr presents a vivid template of peaceful co-existence. This season should make us better people in all facets of life. It ought to daily guide the behaviour of every individual, the conduct of every leader and the policies of governments,” he said.
Jibrin, in a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, said the end of Ramadan should serve as a moment for reflection, unity and renewed commitment to compassion and shared humanity.
He noted that the declaration of March 20, 2026, as the first day of Shawwal by the Sultanate Council marks not just the conclusion of fasting, but a transition into a period that calls for sustained moral values and collective responsibility.
The Senate chief expressed concern over the economic impact of ongoing international conflicts, particularly tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, warning that such disputes contribute to inflationary pressures and price instability across global markets.
He cautioned that prolonged hostilities could deepen economic hardship, especially for developing countries like Nigeria, and called on world leaders to prioritise diplomacy and de-escalation.
As part of the celebration, Jibrin announced the disbursement of N157 million to constituents across the 13 local councils of Kano North, his senatorial district.
The intervention, he explained, is aimed at assisting vulnerable residents in the celebration and easing economic pressures during the festive period. He also noted the distribution of over 60,000 bags of assorted items across parts of Kano during Ramadan
IN separate goodwill messages, the green chamber leaders commended Muslims for their devotion, sacrifice and commitment to the spiritual exercise, urging them to sustain the values of discipline, compassion and unity imbibed during the holy month.
They also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for peace, stability and progress of the nation, while promoting tolerance and harmonious coexistence among citizens.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, in a Sallah message, frowned on the recent Maiduguri bombings and associated deaths, which he said were a reminder of the scale of evil in the nation.
Asserting that as Muslims celebrate, the nation still bleeds, Ajaero urged that just as the sword of Ibrahim (AS) was stayed, the swords raised against citizens, causing pain and insecurity across the nation, should also be sheathed.
The NLC chief called on all leaders and gatekeepers of the nation to use the sacred period for deep and sincere soul-searching.
According to him, there is no cause, political ambition, religious dogma or economic gain worth the shedding of a single drop of Nigerian blood.
