Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has commended the Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) for paying their taxes as and when due.

Executive Director, Income Tax, Felix Isuku, who led the EIRS delegation on the ‘Operation Know Your Taxpayers’ to the university and the teaching hospital, stated that having reviewed the records, it found the establishments were tax-compliant.

He noted that the visit was to engender cordial relations with tax-compliant establishments and get updated information on taxpayers for ease of interaction and improved cooperation.

Bursar of the institution, Dr. Nosa Edogiawerie, who commended the EIRS, encouraged the continuation of the compliance exercise to ease tax administration in the state.

While applauding the revenue body for its friendly disposition, he stated that the visit provided an opportunity to interact with EIRS and clarify grey areas, which he said, was a welcome development.

Director, Legal Services, Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Omoregie Osamuyimen, stated that the hospital was tax compliant.

Affirming that non-payment of tax would dent the image of the hospital and possibly attract sanction from the government, he assured of continued payment of tax by staff members.

Director of Administration at IUTH, Michael Strauss, stated that responsible government employees should pay their taxes, as government depends on tax revenues to drive development in every clime.

He said if taxes were not paid, culprits could get punished as it obtained in advanced countries.
