The recently concluded second edition of “The Battle of the Brains,” held in February 2018 in Ekiti State, Nigeria, has significantly raised the bar for academic competitions nationwide. Organized by the National Youth Service Coordinator, Adebayo Azeez Adekunle, this event built upon the monumental success of its maiden edition at the University of Ibadan, where it left an indelible mark on the academic landscape.
Reflecting on the inception of this groundbreaking competition, Olateju Aliyu, the Student Union Vice President in 2016, remarked, “The maiden edition of ‘The Battle of the Brains’ was not just a competition; it was a revolution in our approach to education. It fostered a culture of intellectual curiosity and versatility among students, transcending conventional classroom learning.”
This year’s edition in Ekiti State witnessed an overwhelming participation of over 5,000 high school students, rigorously tested in diverse subjects ranging from Mathematics to General Knowledge. Of these, only the top 20 students progressed to the subsequent rounds, leading up to an exciting grand finale. This final stage featured standout contestants such as Temitope, Titilayo, Bisola, Tayo, Segun, and Olawale. In a display of exceptional intellectual prowess, Ajiwe Titilayo from Glory International School, Ekiti, clinched the top spot. Following closely was Odeleye Temitope from Aramoko District Commercial Secondary School, who earned the position of first Runner Up after a series of challenging and competitive rounds.

Akin Oluwadare Jnr., leading the Aramoko Socioeconomic Summit Group, a key partner in this year’s event, emphasized the competition’s significance: “By recognizing and rewarding academic excellence, ‘The Battle of the Brains’ is a beacon of hope and inspiration. It’s a platform that not only showcases the brilliance of our youth but also attracts the attention of global entities towards our future leaders.”
