The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has said the Ekiti governorship election revealed that Nigeria is making significant progress in the administration of the polls.
The organisation, therefore, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct.
Chairman of CDD Election Analysis Centre (EAC), Prof. Adele Jinadu, said this while presenting a preliminary report on the Ekiti governorship election, yesterday,in Abuja.
He said based on the feedback from its observers deployed for the poll, there were several areas of concerns, which called for stronger management of elections.
Jinadu said: “Data from the areas covered by our observers indicate that 86 per cent of INEC officials had arrived at their polling units by 8:30a.m. Data from CDD-EAC Electronic Observer Platform further showed that 74 per cent of INEC poll officials addressed voters before the 8:30a.m official time of poll opening
“Data showed that in all 168 polling units that were visited, BVAS was available. However, in Polling Unit 010, Ward 10, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Council, there was no BVAS at the time when poll was expected to begin. The CDD-EAC data point to a high usage of the BVAS, with 88 per cent of polling units visited reporting effective usage.”
