Ekiti, Ondo meet to resolve boundary disputes among border towns

We’ll support police to settle dispute between Oyo, Osun says Makinde

Worried by the persistent and festering boundary disputes among some border communities, the Ekiti and Ondo State governments have resolved to set machinery in motion to end all boundary tussles between the two states.

At the meeting, the technical committee of each state was mandated to dialogue with the affected towns on the need to embrace peace before the final meeting of the experts that would midwife the final peace process.

The decision was taken during a session held, yesterday, in Akure, Ondo State capital, when Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, led a delegation to her counterpart in Ondo State, Dr Olaide Adelami.

Afuye noted that the two states had built an enduring relationship since 1976, saying that these crises won’t be allowed to fester and throw a spanner in the wheel of progress.

Adelami, while restating that the relationship between the two states remains invincible, applauded the Ekiti State government for the peace initiative and for believing in their abilities to resolve some of the boundary impasse. He pledged full cooperation in resolving the challenges, saying the bond of unity between the two states remains unbroken.

RELATEDLY, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has pledged to support the police to tackle the boundary dispute between Oyo and Osun states.
Makinde made the promise while receiving the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, comprising Oyo and Osun states, AIG Fred Ikokotu.
The governor said that nothing could be achieved in an atmosphere of insecurity, promising to support the police to bring lasting peace to the affected area.

Makinde, who lauded the police for their efforts in keeping the peace in the state and across the country, said that his administration would continue to prioritise the security of life and property of the citizens, noting that he will continue to ensure peaceful co-existence between residents of Oyo and those of neighbouring states.
