KADUNA State governor-elect, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, at the weekend advised people of the state, especially All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters not to resort to violence to avenge the death of his campaign coordinator, Markus Ishaya.

Rather, he said they should abide by the rule of law while showing their displeasure on the incident.

Ishaya, who was El-Rufai’s coordinator in Atuku Ward was killed last week by gunmen in Jema’a local council, where he played an active role in the success achieved by APC in the area.

El-Rufai was represented at the funeral by his deputy, Mr. Bala Barnabas Bantex.

He said: “We received the news of Markus’ murder with pain, but we pray that the Almighty God will grant him eternal rest. Though he was cut in his prime, he exhibited courage, fearlessness and commitment in the struggle for a better Nigeria. He resisted injustice and stood firm even in the heat of the general elections.

“Markus did his best to uphold democratic principles. He lived a short life but wrote his name in gold and died upholding the common good. What happened is evil and a desecration of human life. We will not relent in demanding justice, not minding how long it will take.”

The governor-elect, who appealed for calm in the state, stressed further, “Markus lived a worthy life. We will not forget his sacrifice. Our hearty condolence goes to his immediate family, community and fellow party members.”

El Rufai must be investigated for his foreign links. A man cannot serve two masters. He is either for Nigeria or for the foreign intelligence agency!

While everyone is free to express his views in a democracy, I am saddened that Sai Yarima is using this forum at this time when a life has been lost to ask that Mallam El Rufai should be investigated for his foreign link. This is insensitive and inappropriate. at this time when a life has been needlessly lost. Markus was first and foremost a human being. His killing was murder and every decent human being should be expressing condolence and not seek to score a cheap political point. My condolence to the family of the deceased, El Rufai and APC that the deceased believed in and died for. Sai should seek another forum to express his view on El-Rufai foreign connection.
