AS the new Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai took over the rein of power yesterday, thousands of youths who invaded the venue of the inauguration attacked the Emir of Zauzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris and other dignitaries even as they urged the government to bring to book those that have impoverished the State.

The former Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero was conspicuously absent at the swearing-in ceremony conducted by the Kaduna Chief Judge, Justice Tanimu Zailani at Murtala Mohammed Square.

Youths in their thousands were chanting, “new Governor, new Sarki, change, change, change” as they hauled stones at the direction of the Emir of Zauzau and other dignitaries who were seated at the VIP section.
The Nigerian Ambassador to United Kingdom, Dr. Sarki Tarfida was whisked out of the venue in a Jeep, with the registration number- Abuja KUJ 431 GT.

It took armed security men several hours to bring the situation under control as they shot several canisters into the air to disperse the irate youths.

Meanwhile, in his inaugural address, Governor El- Rufai assured the people of his plans to revive Kaduna State and bring those who contributed to the backwardness of the State to book.

El-Rufai also stated that “as our leader, Muhammadu Buhari, assumes the exalted office of President of our country today, we salute fellow Nigerians for choosing unity over division, humility over excess, honesty over duplicity, and hope over fear.

From today, we declare that we are slaves no more.”
