Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, at the weekend, unveiled the first private museum, DIDI Museum, founded 40 years ago by a desert warrior, Dr. Newton Jibunoh.

Bayero also performed the official opening of the Nelson Mandela Gardens and Resort in Asaba, Delta State.

Speaking while unveiling the art exhibition, in commemoration of 40th anniversary of Didi Museum and official opening of Nelson Mandela Gardens & Resort, the monarch urged the Federal Government, individuals and corporate organisations to extend support to tourist attractions in the country.

He also tasked stakeholders to key into tourism, saying efforts would create employment for the teeming Nigerian youths.

The traditional ruler, who spoke on the theme: ‘No Art, No History,’ said Dr. Jibunoh took to his father’s advise by establishing an annex of Didi Museum in Asaba.

He praised his foresight, experience and knowledge for the betterment of his community and Nigeria at large.

“My father was excited to meet Jibunor 40 years ago. My father met him and discussd how to address desert encroachment. I want to support Jibunor, following the footsteps of our forefathers.

The royal father said: “It is the first privately owned museum in Nigeria, and a not for profit making venture, nurtured by religious and, sometimes, fanatical collection of various painting, carving and antiques that come from all over Nigeria, such as the internationally acclaimed Bronze Heads from Benin and Ile Ife, the Nok Terracotta Heads of Nigeria.”
