#EndBadGovernance: Kano sets up six-member white paper committee
In response to the recommendation of the committee of inquiry over the breach of peace during #EndBadGovernance, the Kano State Government has constituted a six-member committee to draft a white paper.
The white paper draft is expected to outline the final disciplinary action against culprits of wanton destruction and punitive measures to prevent the recurrence of the incident.
Inaugurating the committee on Tuesday at the cabinet office, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, said the committee is tasked with thoroughly examining the report and making further recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
Chairing the inaugural session on behalf of the state governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, the SSG said incidents of breaches of peace, destruction of public and private properties, looting, arson, and killings that occurred in August last year are worrisome.
He described the events as a bitter experience, stating that the loss of lives and destruction of properties worth billions of naira had set the state back significantly.
The SSG reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking all necessary measures to prevent a recurrence, rebuild the economy, and ease the suffering caused by the crisis.
He further highlighted the importance of the committee’s work, expressing confidence in its members’ expertise to ensure a prompt and appropriate response.
The white paper draft committee is chaired by Alhaji Dan Yahaya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services; Alhaji Aliyu Garo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, member; and Dr. Hadi Bala, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, member.
Others are Barrister Salisu Marmara – a Ministry of Justice member; Mallam Yahaya Umar, Director, Planning, Research, and Statistics, Kano State Pension Fund Trustee, secretary; and Jamilu Usman, Assistant Secretary II, REPA Directorate, SSG’s Office, to serve as Assistant Secretary.
Speaking on behalf of the committee members, Alhaji Yahaya expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government and Gov Yusuf for entrusting them with such an important assignment. He assured that the committee would work diligently to justify the confidence placed in them.
