#EndBadGovernance: Punish those behind arrest of minors, Reps caucus urges FG
The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called on authorities to punish those responsible for the arrest of 76 #EndBadGovernance protesters, many of whom were minors.
Led by Mr. Kingsley Chinda, the caucus, in a statement, applauded President Bola Tinubu for responding to calls from Nigerians and the international community to release the minors who had been charged with terrorism, treason, and arson by the Nigerian Police Force.
The caucus specifically advocated for a thorough investigation, prosecution, and discipline of individuals and government agencies involved in what it described as “the despicable, callous, and inhuman action” that has resulted in national disgrace and global condemnation.
“Any person or institution that played a role in confining the children in cells for about 95 days, when they should have been at their respective schools, trades, and vocations, must be held accountable to allow public outrage and enforce punitive measures that will serve as a deterrent to others,” the caucus stressed.
The caucus also appealed for quality reformatory therapy sessions and medical support for the minors as they reunite with their families.
Additionally, they called for immediate reparation packages for the children and their families to alleviate the hardship, pain, and emotional distress suffered during the period of their unlawful detention.
