Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has said he will invest heavily in agriculture and ensure fishermen get financial value for their efforts.
Eno made the declaration after his swearing-in as governor. He promised to maintain projects executed and advance those started by his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, towards improving quality of life in rural areas and stemming rural-urban migration.

He added that he would link communities that have not been connected to the national grid, and ensure that they have electricity, clean water and primary healthcare facilities to complement the great strides recorded by his predecessor in secondary healthcare facilities.

MEANWHILE, Emmanuel, yesterday, handed over an official residence to the Chief Judge of the state, few hours before his exit from office. Speaking at the ceremony, Emmanuel said the residence was his promise fulfilled and thanked the judiciary for the support given to his administration. Emmanuel urged the Chief Judge to continue to dispense justice without fear or bias.

The governor said: “This is a purpose-built residence for the chief judge. It has a banquet hall that can host judges from time to time. She can do a whole lot here rather than going to her office. I’m sure when we finish, she can be linked up with data, especially these days they do virtual meetings. I am sure as she is here, she will be able to dispense justice very well.

“Nothing to be afraid of in this environment, you are well protected you can see the whole place surrounded by security men, the Chief judge is well protected and I’m sure the next governor will give you more security.”

The Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot, who is the first occupant of the residence, thanked the governor for keeping his promise and thanked him also for his car gifts to judges. Obot said the governor’s official residence for the CJ was the first in history in the 35 years of the state’s creation.
