chimeTHE Enugu State House of Assembly may have begun a probe on how contracts for rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, as well as, housing projects were awarded by the immediate past administration of Sullivan Chime.

This was revealed at the House yesterday when Speaker, Edward Ubosi announced that the Programme Manager of Arab Contractors, one of the major contracting firms that handled housing and road projects, together with top officials of the State Ministry of Works, were summoned to appear before the House Committee on Works to explain issues relating to contracts and their execution.

According to him, those summoned were required to meet at the Conference Hall of the Legislative Chambers today (Wednesday), November 25, 2015.

The House Committee on Works, led by Sunday Ude-Okoye, representing Awgu North Constituency, last week, undertook oversight tour of some projects awarded and executed by the immediate past administration of the state, including the New Lion Building, New Workers’ Secretariat, Akwata Road, among others.

They had expressed dissatisfaction on the “poor execution” of some of the contracts, said to have gulped millions of naira.

At the secretariat, the committee had openly kicked against the execution of the job, as it was reported that to be lacking in various facilities.

It would be recalled that at the twilight of Chime’s administration, the House of Assembly had fallen out with him when they began to inquire on the award of contracts, as well as, land acquisition under questionable circumstances.
