Enugu SSG to bury mother tomorrow

The Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, will tomorrow, Saturday, November 30, 2024, lay his late mother, Mrs Grace Ogoegbunam Onyia (née Achime), to rest at her country home in Udeji village, Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Council.

The Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, will tomorrow, Saturday, November 30, 2024, lay his late mother, Mrs Grace Ogoegbunam Onyia (née Achime), to rest at her country home in Udeji village, Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Council.

According to the burial programme released by the family, the rites will begin today, Friday, November 29, 2024, with a service of songs at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Udeji Village, Amechi Awkunanaw, at 5:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at Amechi Football Field, Kenneth Nnamani Road, Udeji village, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment. Reception for guests will also take place at the same venue.

A thanksgiving service will round off the burial activities on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Amechi Awkunanaw, at 10:00 a.m.
Mrs Onyia, who passed away on October 22, 2024, at 79, was a dedicated public servant throughout her career. She began as a teacher, imparting knowledge and moral values to her students, before transferring to the Federal Civil Service and later the Enugu State Civil Service.

She retired as an Assistant Chief Catering Officer from the Catering Division of the Cabinet Office, Enugu.Known for her strong moral principles and commitment to family, community, and humanity, Mrs Onyia was also a devout Christian. She served as a church warden and participated in various church committees at St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Amechi Awkunanaw, and, later, Emmanuel Anglican Church, Achara Layout, Enugu.She is survived by her children, grandchildren, a great-grandchild, sisters, and other relatives.
