Eradicating hunger panacea to peace, stability in Africa — Buhari-Ado

Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on School Feeding Programme, Dr. Fauziya Buhari-Ado, has emphasised that eradicating hunger remains the surest path to ensuring stability, productivity, and peace across Nigeria and the African continent.

Speaking in Nairobi, Kenya, while receiving the 2025 4th Humanitarian Bootcamp Award, Buhari-Ado said that achieving food security must be treated as a strategic pillar of Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

She urged governments, development partners, civil society groups, and the private sector to unite in tackling hunger, stressing that the fight against food insecurity is fundamental to sustainable development.

“When the day comes that no African child — and no African adult — goes to bed hungry, we will know that we have truly fed the future — not through power, but through humanity, compassion, and love,” she said.

In her presentation titled, ‘Feeding the Future: Leveraging Humanitarian Leadership to Achieve Food Security and Economic Transformation in Africa,’ Buhari-Ado expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his vision and leadership in advancing the Kaduna State School Feeding Programme, a flagship initiative providing daily meals to thousands of school children.

She noted that under Sani’s leadership, the programme has become a model of inclusive development, improving nutrition, increasing school attendance, empowering women, and supporting local farmers.

“Each meal we provide is not just food; it is a bridge to learning, a shield against poverty, and a promise that we see these children, we care for them, and we will not abandon them,” she stated, adding: “Feeding our children is not charity; it is nation-building.”

Buhari-Ado also paid tribute to women leaders driving humanitarian and leadership development across Africa, notably the Patron of the Women’s Leadership Network, Dr. Martina Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Network’s Founder, Mrs. Deborah Hornecker.

She applauded their mentorship and dedication to women’s empowerment.

She described the Women’s Leadership Network as “a powerful platform for collaboration and transformation” that unites women from diverse sectors to promote inclusion and social impact.
