POISED to revolutionise the music industry, new entrant, Revolution Records made its debut in Lagos with a big splash.

The music label also debuted with her breakout star, Divine Reo.

Giving the welcome address, label co-founder, Henry ‘Pundit’ Kufre, expressed delight that the dream of several years has come to fruition. Expressing faith and confidence of the label’s longevity, he vowed that they were here to stay and leave their mark on the industry.

Speaking with The Guardian, he described the label as a family, noting that before officially launching, plans were made on how to survive the tough music industry. “We are well aware of our limits and while I won’t say we are here to take over, we intend to be worthy contenders,” he said.

Speaking on their unveiled artist, Divine Reo, he expressed awareness of the pressures that artists in labels go through to meet expectations, vowing that they intend to do things differently.

“We don’t want to put pressure on our artist or bully her. We just want the world to see her talent and what she can do.. We don’t intend to put a lot of pressure on her but everyone can be rest assured that we will go the extra mile for her. There are not many top female artists in Nigeria currently and we intend to change that.    Not to over promise but Divine Reo can adapt to any type of sound, locally or internationally; she is that talented.

“Also, she is ready to give what the industry needs right now. Whatever she gives us is what we’ll promote to the best of our abilities,” he said.

Speaking on how they intend to tackle distribution, he said they are working with ONErpm to handle distribution; adding that this will be a game changer for them and the music industry as a whole.

Co-founder and financier, Evolution Records, Dike Isaac, divulged that they didn’t go into music completely for the money but passion is what drives them.

He added that from his experience, people often take advantage of less opportune people and force rising artists to sign all manner of contracts that do not benefit them. We hear how record bosses and their artists often have all manners of misunderstandings especially regarding money and I didn’t want that here.

“We have decided not to do all that. We want our relationship to be mutually beneficial. We need everyone’s support and want you to help promote her because she does amazing music that appeals to all,” he said.

Tracing her origins, Divine Reo whose real name is Princess Divine, revealed that she started singing from the church and then singing covers of popular songs.

“Later I started writing music I wanted and loved listening to. I built a community and started posting the song covers of songs online and introduced my budding community to my music. I have released a couple of songs already to great reception,” she revealed.

Speaking on her inspiration, the Afro R & B singer said her mum is her inspiration and she looks up to her. “My musical and industry influences include Tems, Tyla, Tiwa and Ayra Starr. I put a lot of me into my music and a part of me will always be in every music I put out.”

The final year student of the University of Port Harcourt said she makes music for every Nigerian and wants everyone to relate to her brand of music.

Speaking on future plans, the young star said she has a mini concert coming up soon and her long term plans are to release a great album with features from other notable artists.
