Former Commissioner, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Mr. Kehinde Bemigbetan, has urged the Indigenous Movie Makers Association (IMMAN) to use its talents to promote Nigeria’s indigenous culture and morality.

Bemigbetan, who made this appeal at the inauguration of the new executive members of the Association, held at the Lagos Centre of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ikeja, Lagos, said Nigeria’s indigenous culture is rich in proverbs, history, accent and dialect among others to be explored.

IMMAN, according to Bamigbetan, who is also, the Director of Media Relations, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Presidential Media Campaign Council, is like a language protector, whose platform could be used to showcase the Nigerian culture and languages.

He said, “The coming together of IMMAN is, in itself, a major step forward because it shows there is a future for our languages.

Indigenous production of media has competed effectively with English production.”

He, therefore, tasked the new Exco to also comment on the events in the society to mirror them in a way it would improve the morality of the audience, which is a major challenge plaguing the country today.

“Parents should also encourage their wards to speak our indigenous language,” added Bamigbetan, who was the guest of honour at the event.

On his part, the newly inaugurated President of IMMAN and Chief Executive Office (CEO), X- Media Communications Ltd., Mr. Tunde Lawrenson said their focus as a new exco is geared towards ensuring accountability, transparency, responsibility and good content.

He said, “We will ensure that we have regular human capital development to ensure that we produce quality that can stand the test of time as an association and turning it to an institution of experts and of good content.”

While commending the Lagos State government for its support, Lawrenson said IMMAN would also leverage on the partnership drive with some of its partners and build the IMMAN Trust Fund that would take care of the welfare of the practitioners.

“I’ll urge the new Exco to work effectively with the government of the day; foster growth and development and welfare of all the movie makers in Nigeria; irrespective of their state tribe and religion.

“As practitioners and movie makers, having been in the business for a while, we’ll try to continue to improve in the indigenous movie in Nigeria,”

Chairman Board of Trustees, IMMAN, Dr. Leke Egberongbe, added.

“IMMAN should keep abreast with new developments in the industry,” said Mogaji Aare Oje of Yemetu Adeoyo, Ibadan, Oyo State, Mogaji Taofeek Yekini.
