Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has expressed deep dissatisfaction following the outcome of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Nasarawa State, hinting at a possible departure from the party as he weighs his next political move.
Adamu, who contested the party’s governorship ticket, was reportedly defeated in the exercise, a development that has since stirred reactions within political circles in the state.
In his post-primary remarks, the former police chief said he would not allow the outcome to end his political ambition, adding that he would “pursue my ambition elsewhere,” a statement widely interpreted as a signal of possible defection from the APC.
He, however, stopped short of formally announcing his resignation from the ruling party, instead leaving room for speculation about his next political alignment ahead of future elections.
The primary election itself has continued to generate controversy among stakeholders, with allegations of irregularities and dissatisfaction raised by some participants who faulted the conduct and outcome of the exercise.
Political observers say Adamu’s reaction reflects growing tensions within party structures in Nasarawa State following the selection process, especially among aspirants who feel sidelined.
While the APC leadership has maintained that the primary was conducted in line with party guidelines, aggrieved aspirants are expected to further engage internal dispute resolution mechanisms or consider alternative political platforms.
For now, Adamu’s statement has intensified political uncertainty around his next step, as attention shifts to whether he will formally exit the APC or remain within the party ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
