Expert calls for stakeholders’ collaboration to tackle housing deficit

Kennedy Okonkwo

The Group Managing Director, Nedcomoaks Group, Dr Kennedy Okonkwo, has stressed the need for stakeholders in the building sector to collaborate in addressing the housing deficit across the country.

Okonkwo gave the charge during the 20th anniversary celebration of Nedcomoaks in Victoria Island, Lagos. He said that the housing challenges in the country affect everyone, including the community, the government, and the regulators, noting that stakeholders must come together to address the housing shortage.

“On our part, we are doing our best to ensure affordable housing to all, regardless of background. For every young person whose dream is to own a property, we are focused on making sure the dream comes true,” he said.

Okonkwo, who also acknowledged the challenges in the sector, such as trust issues with Diaspora clients and market volatility, said that investors must carry out due diligence when engaging developers.

Meanwhile, the group has planned to lead a roadshow across 10 cities, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, showcasing reputable Nigerian developers.

The initiative, according to him, aims to rebuild trust among Diaspora clients and promote investment in Nigeria’s real estate sector. Okonkwo, who noted that the celebration marks a remarkable moment in his life, reflected on his journey from constructing a single bungalow in Oniru, Lagos, to delivering thousands of homes to Nigerians from various backgrounds.
