As part of solutions to end the leadership crisis facing the country, Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Abdurrahman Lekki, has called for the creation of a national curriculum on leadership skills across all spectrum in primary to tertiary institutions.

Lekki, who gave the advice, yesterday, during the leadership and empowerment conference for Imams and religious leaders in Lagos State, organised by Al-Habibiyyah Centre in Lagos, stressed the need for the country to make leadership a culture of the people, adding that countries that have successfully implemented his proposition include Kuwait, China and Japan.

He said: “We have a preponderance of people in the country who are potential leaders. We need to design a national curriculum right from the cradle to tertiary institution level.”

“It is the foundation of progress. It drives innovation, motivates others, and navigates through obstacles. By demonstrating effective leadership, current leaders can inspire the next generation to take up leadership roles.”

He also called for a comprehensive review of the Arabic Studies curriculum in madrasahs where students typically spend eight years before graduating, stressing the need for government to prioritise relevant courses and ensure that the curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of the students.

Coordinator of Al-Habibiyyah Centre, Abdulrahman Thabit, said that the event was organised for the Imams to enhance their leadership performance in their respective areas.

He also stressed the importance role Imams play in the Muslim community, saying they are at the forefront of impacting lives of their congregation, ensuring that their members are resourceful and useful to the society.
