Two university lecturers, Dr. Abimbola Oluwatosin of the Department of Nursing, University of Ibadan and Vice Chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, yesterday, tasked the Federal Government and other stakeholders, in the country to find lasting solutions to the lingering crisis confronting the health sector.

Both frown at how the government gives much attention to insecurity issues without considering the necessity that human health should come first.

They spoke at the Third Induction Ceremony of the Nursing graduating students of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State. They charged the Federal Government to live up to the demands of the health profession.

They advised the government to expand the capacity of the health sector to enable it to serve better. Oluwatosin in her lecture, entitled: ‘Excelling as nursing professionals in the midst of dynamic global health issues’, said health security should not be left for the Ministry of Health alone.

“Governments, at all levels, should pay more attention to health-related issues. Global pandemic showed us where global health condition stands, global health has affected every areas,” she said.

She argued that investment in health sector would yield greater dividend, in terms of security, economy and development, if properly considered.

She urged the inductees to step into the aura of excellence they are designed for and intervene in the prevailing health problems.

Also, Ogunwole tasked the inductees to live up to the wide range of the profession and contribute to the health care sector globally.

“We live in networks of social relationships and as nurses, who work for most part in the health sector, whose success requires the coordination of the activity of many other individuals from diverse professions.

There are many cases you cannot reconcile your own values and convictions with that of those around you but you must do your possible best for the sake of your patients. Therefore be reminded that you are a major determinant of your destiny, because your progress in life largely depends on how reasonable you are,” he said.
