The incoming administration has been urged to review borrowing policy and debt management, stating that existing loans’ burden gives concern.

The incoming administration has been urged to review borrowing policy and debt management, stating that existing loans’ burden gives concern.

This was the position of participants at a one-day summit, organised by Triune Foundation, with the theme, A New Nigeria Leadership Imperatives for Radical Growth and Transformation, in Lagos, at the weekend.

In a communiqué signed by founder of the foundation, Pastor Jeremiah Akinsele, the summit observed that statistics of abandoned projects nationwide were disturbing, hence the need for evaluation, project planning and implementation to check wastage.

The gathering also recommended urgent actions at changing the narrative and freeing the nation of huge debt servicing.

The experts equally suggested revitalisation of the manufacturing sector to address pervasive import substitution and attendant depletion of foreign exchange.

Akinsele said: “The incoming administration should address endemic corruption headlong. Pervasive corruption undermines the best of intention and, therefore, must be tackled with sincerity and commitment.”

There’s need for strengthening of anti-corruption policies to address systemic abuses in financial institutions, public and private sectors.

“The summit recommends greater sense of accountability on the part of government in addressing pervasive insecurity in the country. It also proposes localisation of security architecture and commands to enhance inclusive participation in neighborhood security across Nigeria.

“The participants recommended greater commitment to reform of security institutions, with enabling laws and regulations put in place to encourage participation of sub-national governments. They also recommended state police and relevant security architecture, with command structures at the state and local council levels.”

He stressed the need for civil service reform to restore pride of place of technocrats in the formulation, design and implementation of public programmes.

Akinsele continued: “The summit recommends better performance from public servants through adherence to ethics and best practices.

“It also proposes review of reward system to address neglect and frustration that often trigger institutional corruption.”
