Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), FACCO West Africa Ltd, Femi Adelayo, has called for the automation of the poultry industry to aid value addition, get higher yields and tackle food insecurity in the country.

He, however, said Nigeria’s egg consumption would reach 600,000 metric tons by 2026, which would translate to an increase of 0.2 per cent year-on-year from 596,000 metric tons in 2021.

Further checks showed that the global consumption of poultry and livestock products was expected to double over the next decade and Adelayo said meeting such huge demand in a country with a population of over 200 million means more poultry processes must be automated.

He added that apart from simplifying otherwise tasking and time-consuming processes, they had invested in mechanised farming merchandise to enhance the yield of all livestock and poultry produce.

Adding that the business of livestock had gone beyond the rural methods of years past, he said livestock owners must be aware of sustainable livestock production technology in feedlot management, feedlot stocking, beef, beef processing equipment and other livestock value-added solutions to get maximum value.

“Automation will increase the ability to cut feeding, collection and maintenance costs. System and equipment automation can also help you profit from operational scale and waste recovery. Nigeria must, as a matter of national urgency and to satisfy nutritional needs, begin to invest in automated processes to engender self-sufficiency in food production and food security. We are well suited to transform poultry business in Nigeria owing to the solutions we offer with a focus on quality equipment for the agriculture and livestock sector,” he said.
