Fake FRSC officials docked in Abuja for fraud, impersonation

Two men – Barry Asemota and John Jonathan – were on Tuesday brought before a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, charged with defrauding a businessman of N10, 000.

The accused – Asemota, 38, and Jonathan, 39 – who reside at One Man Village, Nasarawa State, are facing a two-count charge of impersonation and cheating.

Prosecutor Osa Oyeyemi told the court that the complainant, Mr Nura Musa, reported the case on Feb. 11 at Wuse Police Station.

He said the accused, who impersonated Federal Road Safety Corps officials deceived the complainant that they could process his vehicle documents for N10, 000 only.

“The accused issued the complainant fake documents and during police investigation, they confessed to the crime.’’

The offences contravened the provisions of Section 322 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation.

Both Asemota and Jonathan denied the charge.

In her ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Fatima Bukar, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with a reliable surety each in like sum.

She said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case to March 29 for hearing.
