The Nwafor family in Ndikwuenu community, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, expressing grief over the silence of the Department of State Services (DSS) on their missing brother, Obiora Uzor Nwafor, a staff of the agency in Lagos Command, who was among the seven operatives allegedly ambushed and killed by vandals at Konu area of Ikorodu, Lagos, at the early hours of September 16, 2015.
It was learnt that the team was on September 15, 2015, reportedly sent out on a rescue mission at Ikorodu, against the background that some kidnappers held hostage the wife of a journalist around Konu area, but were all slain by the vandals.
In a petition entitled ‘A plea to bear on the DSS to inform us of the whereabouts of our brother Obiora Uzor Nwafor, who works with the Lagos Command,’ Dr. Okechukwu Nwafor, who is elder brother of the missing Obiora, implored the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to compel the DSS to inform Nigerians on the present state of the seven missing DSS operatives, whether they are still alive or dead.
The petition, which was also addressed to the Committee Chairman and Vice Chairman, Senators David Umaru and Godswill Akpabio, and made available to The Guardian yesterday, read in part: “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. Distinguished Senators, it is on this note that I wish to declare my disappointment with the DSS who have remained silent over the most serious occurrence in their Department over the past years.
“I am shocked that after seven months, the DSS has kept silent, despite our many entreaties for information, over my younger brother and his six colleagues, who were sent to work from their Lagos command on September 15, 2015 but have not come back up till today.”
