FCC chair pledges inclusive development for FCT natives

The Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Barr. Kayode Oladele, has pledged to partner with the original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to promote inclusive development.

Oladele made the pledge on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the Maijagora Peace and Development Initiative, a non-governmental organization representing the indigenous people of the FCT, during a courtesy visit to his office.

Describing the FCC as a critical institution in advancing fairness and equity in the distribution of public positions, socioeconomic amenities, and infrastructure, Oladele emphasized the Commission’s commitment to national unity and balanced development.

“The Federal Character Commission is a law enforcement agency mandated to ensure compliance with the principles of fairness and equity in the allocation of federal resources, including within the FCT,” he said.

“Our mandate is to foster a sense of belonging among Nigerians by promoting loyalty to our shared destiny, especially in relation to national integration and unity. We are committed to ensuring that every part of the country, including the FCT, receives fair treatment in terms of infrastructural development and appointments.”

In a statement issued by the Commission’s Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Chizea Chukwudi Christopher, the FCC encouraged the delegation to take advantage of available opportunities within the FCT to improve the socio-economic conditions of indigenous communities.

The delegation, led by the Executive Director of the Maijagora Peace and Development Initiative, Comrade Muntasir Jibrin Mohammed, described Oladele’s appointment as timely and commendable. Mohammed also lauded the FCC’s leadership for its focus on peace, stability, and justice.

He noted that the organization is made up of sons and daughters of the FCT’s original inhabitants who have historically faced marginalization in areas such as economic empowerment, education, cultural identity, and heritage.
