FCT command arrests man for killing friend as Portable reports to police in Ogun

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Iliayasu Mohammed, for allegedly murdering his friend, Safillahi Muhammad, in Dantata Village, Abuja.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Iliayasu Mohammed, for allegedly murdering his friend, Safillahi Muhammad, in Dantata Village, Abuja.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers responded to a distress call at about 1:30 p.m. and found the victim lying in a pool of blood with multiple cutlass wounds. Muhammad was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

Adeh disclosed that investigations revealed Mohammed, an ex-convict, had invited the victim to his home, served him food, and attacked him mid-meal. During questioning, Mohammed admitted to the crime and confessed to being part of a criminal gang led by a suspect known as Hassan, who is currently at large.

Adeh stated that authorities are actively tracking other gang members who fled the scene, adding that Mohammed will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The FCT Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.

In a separate development, the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, yesterday at about 1:23 p.m.

It was gathered that the singer was handed over to the Ogun State Police Command by the SCID, Panti, Lagos, where he turned himself in earlier in the day.

Portable was declared wanted by the police over his involvement in a violent attack on government officials carrying out lawful duties.

The Guardian learnt that the attack occurred on February 5, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., targeting officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office.

Spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed Portable’s presence at the SCID in connection with the ongoing investigation. Odutola assured the public that due process would be followed in handling the matter and updates would be provided as necessary.

She urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, affirming the command’s commitment to upholding justice and maintaining public order.
