The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Ajao Adewale, has called on residents of the FCT to adhere strictly to traffic regulations as part of a broader effort to ensure safety, order, and the smooth flow of vehicular movement across the territory.
Speaking in a statement issued from the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Adewale noted that obeying traffic laws is a key civic responsibility.
According to him, complying with road safety rules protects individual lives and contributes significantly to the overall development of society.
“The police are not adversaries; we are partners in progress,” CP Adewale stated.
“Respect for officers, obedience to traffic regulations, and refraining from illegal roadside activities are vital to creating a safer, more organized FCT.”
The commissioner highlighted the dangers of illegal parking, street trading, and other activities that obstruct traffic, stressing that they pose grave dangers to road users and hamper law enforcement efforts.
He urged traders to refrain from selling goods on roadways and advised drivers to obey all road signs, especially in high-traffic zones.
He also warned against assaulting or obstructing police officers, particularly those tasked with traffic and public safety responsibilities, stating that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, Adewale encouraged members of the public to report traffic infractions and suspicious activities.
The FCT Police Command provided emergency contact numbers for public use: 08032003913, 08033111911, and 07057321547.
