FG assures equity in distribution of amenities across Nigeria
Nigeria can achieve stability if character mandate is fairly represent, Sen Plang
Federal Government, on Tesuday, assured the adoption of equitable distribution of socio-economic amenities and infrastructural facilities across the country, in line with the mandate of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
It also urged FCC to take bold determination to ensure the implementation of its important mandates in tandem with the present administration’s agenda of renewed hope for the country.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. George Akume, discloses this in Abuja, while declaring open a 3-day sensitization and public enlightenment workshop for North East geopolitical zone, said that the FCC is a pivotal one is driven by all efforts as a nation towards national cohesion, nation building and inclusiveness.
The stakeholders workshop with the theme: ‘Equity, fairness and justice in the distribution of resources as a tool in realizing the renewed Hope Agenda’.Hope of the present administration, is organized by the FCC for the stakeholders from the North-East zone of the country.
Akume, represented by the Permanent secretary, General Services Office (GSO), Dr. Maurice Mbaeri, called on the management of the FCC to work together as a team in realization of the mandate.
He said that the FCC is a pivotal one that is driven by all efforts as a nation towards national cohesion, nation building and inclusiveness.
He said: “It is therefore pertinent to note that the national trajectory, must have in mind the tripod of equity, fairness and justice, which the nation stands for, is our collective resolve to entrench not only in the distribution of resources but in every facet of our national life and conduct.
“I am happy to note that the Commission has finally fine-tuned and submitted to my office a distribution formula on equitable distribution of amenities across the nation. The office is studying the same with a view to forwarding a draft copy for Mr. President’s approval.”
In her remarks, the Executive Chairman, FCC, Dr Muheeba Dankaka, said that the workshop would offer an opportunity for the stakeholders to understand the imperatives of submission of accurate data to regulatory authorities.
She said: “This workshop is therefore coming at a time when, the will of the present administration is in consonance with the fact that the principle of Federal character is an enduring legacy that our nation will continue to use in a long time to come in order to eliminate suspicion, feeling of marginalization and alienation amongst the citizenry.
“The national trajectory is one that must advocate the virtues of cohesion, so as to create a sense of belonging among the citizenry, in-order to preserve the unity, peace, security and stability of multi-ethnic policy.
“This is in furtherance of the implementation of Section 318 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which states as the impetus for the establishment of the Federal Character Commission; “the distinctive desire of the people of Nigeria to promote national unity, foster national loyalty and give every citizen of Nigeria a sense of belonging to the nation.
“It is on this Constitutional provision and the virtues its spirits propagate that the Commission is thriving to advocate. Therefore, equal development in our belief is necessary to promote people’s wellbeing and enhance quality of live and promote unity.”
Also, On behalf of the 10 Senate Committee on federal character, Senator. Diket Plang, expressed the senates’ commitment to give maximum support to the commission so as to execute its core mandates to ensure the desire of the commission.
He said that Nigeria can achieve its stability if the character mandate in the country is fairly represented, added that all will be well if everybody is part of what is taking place in federal character commission.
He said: “Ten Senate evilly presided by His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio, is a Senate with a complete desire for stability of Nigeria and Nigeria’s can only this table, if ever character in the country is fairly represented, if everybody fears involved, the ten senate is concerned about the stability, good governance and very productive government.”
