FG centralises passport production, promises efficiency

Federal Government has said that henceforth, Nigerians will no longer wait long periods of time to get their passport, as booklets can be produced within days, while same-day approved passports can now be produced within 24 hours after application.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated this while on an inspection tour of the just completed Centralised Passports Personalisation System, at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), headquarters yesterday in Abuja.

The minister revealed that with the world-class centre emplaced, Nigerians would no longer face the challenges of long waiting periods associated with passport applications. He said the new system would dramatically increase passport production capacity, shifting from an old output of 250-300 passports per hour, equating to a total of 4,500-5,000 passports daily.

Unveiling the newly completed centralised passport centre at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Sauka, Abuja, the minister said the facility would transform passport production and eliminate delays for Nigerians at home and abroad.
