Minister of Interior and Chairman of the board, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo

THE Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 27 May and Thursday, 28 May 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul Adha celebration.

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, yesterday in Abuja.

The minister said that “The declaration affirms the federal government’s profound respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who join the global Islamic community in observing the sacred occasion.”

While conveying the warm felicitations of the government to the Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, Dr Tunji-Ojo noted that the festival holds deep spiritual significance grounded in sacrifice, obedience, and compassion.

The minister further urged citizens to utilise the two day holiday for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance as the country navigates its path towards sustained peace, security, and economic prosperity.

He added that it was in the spirit of shared humanity, brotherhood, and national unity that the government wished all Muslims a peaceful and joyous celebration.
