The Federal Government has directed the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to expand its deployment of digital tools for monitoring and enforcement to enhance road safety and reduce traffic violations nationwide.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, issued the directive yesterday during the FRSC’s end-of-year Corps Marshal strategy session with the high command in Abuja.

Represented by Dr Maurice Mbaeri, Permanent Secretary, General Service Office, Akume commended the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, for his achievements since assuming office. He said Mohammed’s visionary leadership and prompt execution of key initiatives had begun to yield significant results.

The SGF lauded the FRSC for maintaining its tradition of excellence while introducing innovative measures to transform the organisation into a more dynamic, efficient and impactful entity under Mohammed’s administration. He noted the strategic role the FRSC plays within the national security framework, especially during the festive season, which is marked by increased vehicular movement and heightened safety risks.

Akume urged commanding officers to leverage the momentum generated by the corps’ recent accomplishments, drawing inspiration from President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He emphasised the need to expand the use of digital tools for monitoring and enforcement, strengthen coordination among commands to ensure seamless operations across states and intensify efforts to educate road users on safe driving practices. He also called for prioritising the welfare and motivation of officers and marshals to boost performance.

The SGF highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships with government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and international organisations to foster resource availability and shared responsibility for road safety. He assured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting the FRSC, including providing operational tools and equipment for special operations during and after the yuletide.

Akume affirmed that the Federal Government would continue to demonstrate its support for the corps by granting approvals for the procurement of vital operational tools and equipment.
