Presenting the relief materials on behalf of the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Muhammad Sani Sidi, to the victims at the weekend in Gombe, Head of Operations at NEMA Gombe Zonal office, Alhaji Saidu Ahmed Minin, said the relief materials were meant for victims of flood disaster and the twin bomb blast that rocked Gombe Central Market.
According to him, the assistance was as result of joint assessment carried out by NEMA Gombe Operations Office and Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) with a view to ensuring that the affected victims benefit from the gesture.
He reiterated government’s commitment of graciously approving relief materials that made up of food and non-food items, which include building materials for the victims of various disasters in Gombe.
He said that both NEMA and SEMA in Gombe State had set up a committee to ensure that the relief materials get to the victims.
The director-general of the agency commiserated with the government and people of Gombe State over the disasters that occurred in the state and prayed for the repose of those that lost their lives and wish those with injuries a quick recovery.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Gombe SEMA, Dr. Danlami Arab Rukujei, who received the relief materials on behalf of the government of Gombe State, thanked the Federal Government for the initiative and assured that the relief materials would get to the victims at their doorsteps.
While calling on the victims to use the relief materials judiciously, he said the items would remain at the custody of NEMA pending when proper distribution would take place to avoid mismanagement of the relief materials.
