FG inaugurates committee on water resources potential
To effectively tackle challenges facing the Water Resources sector, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu has inaugurated a 14-member committee in its efforts to manage the nation’s water resources potentials.
Adamu while inaugurating the Ministerial Policy Advisory Committee, yesterday, in Abuja noted that the advisory committee was important due to the diverse and enormous water resources potentials, which require coordinated and integrated management for efficient usage and conservation.
He pointed out that continuous population growth; urban migration, varied and increase in water demand require well-researched policies, effective planning and sustainable implementation of programmes.
He noted that the committee was expected to advise the minister on local and international development in the sector, including implementation of the National Water Resource Master plan, climate change issues, Water Laws and Policy implementation, trans boundary water issues, tracking of National Council on Water Resources decisions and all other matters of water resources management requiring expert advise.
The terms of reference of the committee include: regular evaluation of the water resource potentials in the country, implementation of the sector masterplan, as well as all policies relating to the sector, adding that they are also to advise the minister on integrated water resource management matters.
