FG restates vision for Nigeria’s armed forces
• Okays pension increase for ex-servicemen
The gallant men and women fighting the nation’s battles need not worry about the Federal Government’s readiness to prioritise their welfare.
According to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the administration would honour them in the fight against terrorists, remember their sacrifices and appreciate their families.
Making the disclosure at the launch of the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem at the Presidential Villa yesterday, Osinbajo said:
“When we consider the situation and conditions under which they died and suffered physical incapacitation, those of us who are beneficiaries of their sacrifice carry a compelling moral duty to do our best to contribute towards the welfare and sustenance of their families and dependents.”
He added: “To this end, we have recently implemented recommendation to increase their pension. We are also happy to note that the military pension scheme is running efficiently, even as verification exercise for ex-servicemen and women was successfully conducted recently.”
