Following the domestication of the Cape Town convention to enhance aircraft leasing in the country, the Federal Government has admitted the need to further engage international lessors and financiers to understand their positions and the capacity they have to lease aircraft to Nigeria airlines.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, stated this, yesterday, during a stakeholder meeting on creating a new partnership between the Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).

He noted that the meeting was convened at the instance of the Vice President to get stakeholders’ opinion on aircraft insurance and the demands of international lessors, financiers and how to balance that with local contents requirements in Nigeria.

He said: “The world is taking Nigeria very seriously and we need to have a Nigerian position on insurance to ensure that we meet the demands of International lessors and financiers.”
