THE Ministry of Science and Technology is set to sign the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) framework to develop its flagship project.

This was stated by Nigeria’s Permanent Delegate at UNESCO, Mariam Katagum during a visit to the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Winifred Oyo-Ita, in Abuja, yesterday.

She said that government is committed to consolidating the UNESCO framework as a follow up to the determination of the present administration and also to support the nation’s science and technology sector.

According to her, the ministry’s inability to sign the framework before now was due to the paucity of funds, noting that the National Scientific Fund would soon be re-invigorated, as it will propel the ministry’s activities at UNESCO.

Oyo-Ita urged UNESCO to take action that would assist the Ministry in its effort to get the balance of Nigeria-UNESCO self-benefitting project on STI Policy.

Her words: “The existing relationship between the Ministry and UNESCO has impacted positively on the development of the new Science, Technology and Innovation Policy especially the flagship project of SHESTCO Silicon Valley (SSV)\Park among other projects.”
