FG trains 30 Independent Monitors in Gombe

Federal government yesterday trained and equipped 30 youths as Independent Monitors of its social investment programs in Gombe State.

The program was done under the FG’s National Social Investment Program (N-SIP)

The number is added to the existing 86 engaged to view and gauge the impact of the FG’s four cluster National Social Investment programs in Gombe.

The programs are: N-POWER, Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program (GEEP) and National Homegrown Feeding Program.

Speaking at the stream II training/onboarding of Independent Monitors at the government house banquet hall, the minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadia Farouk, said the training was targeted at gauging the pulse of beneficiaries of the various federal government’s social development programs.

She added that President Muhammadu Buhari’s social development programs are poised to eradicate poverty among the vulnerable as well as discouraged the youths from vices inimical to national growth.

According to her: “since inception of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, it has faced challenging issues affecting the youths,” adding that 70 per cent of beneficiaries of the social development programs are the vulnerable.

An official from the ministry, Hussein Umar explained that the monitors would comb the metropolis and the hinterland seeking the attention of the beneficiaries on the success of the programs as well as improvements on them.

“the federal government just has to go after its lofty programs and their workings.

“All these the monitors will do and send back feedbacks to us for likely adjustment,” he said.

35-year old Independent Monitor, Bello Adamu, confirmed that he was being trained “to go to the field and ask about the effects of FG’s social development programs on the people.”
