FG, World Bank present commendation letter to Yobe government

The World Bank and the Federal Government on Friday presented a commendation letter to Yobe government for prompt payment of counterpart funds under the the Fadama lll Additional Funding (AF) ll programmes.

The National Programme Coordinator of Fadama 111, Mr Tayo Adewumi, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Alkali, National Desk Officer and Mission Team Leader to the state, presented the letter to the state government in Busari, Yobe State.

“l wish to convey the appreciation and commendation of the Federal Government and World Bank to Yobe Government for supporting the project through prompt payment of counterpart funds.

“While some states were unable to redeem their pledges, Yobe government has paid all counterpart funds from 2016 to 2018 and it is not does not owe any liability,” he said.

Adewumi also lauded the state government for the support given to the state coordination office and the free hand to operate, which produced the desired results and successes recorded.

Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe, while receiving the commendation letter said his administration placed priority on the plight of over 400,000 people affected by insurgency across the state.

He assured that his administration would continue to support the victims to reclaim their means of livelihood.

Gaidam, represented by Mustapha Gajerima, the Commissioner for Agriculture, said that the project had keyed into the recovery plan of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Resettlement with prudent management of resources.

Mallam Bukana Adudu, a resident of Dapchi said, “Fadama had resolved the menace of flooding in Ajiri and Hausari communities.”

Alhaji Bulama Jallarima, the Vice Chairman Busari Local Government Area assured that the council would ensure the maintenance of drains for maximum benefit to the communities.

The team advised the benefiting communities to take ownership of the projects in their communities and evolve a sustainable means of maintaining the facilities.

Alhaji Musa Garba, the state Programme Coordinator, said that with more resources, the project would be extended to more indigent families in the affected communities.

The team also visited Leah Sharibu’s family, the lone Dapchi school girl still in captivity, whose family was supported by the Fadama lll Project, assuring them of continuous support.

Responding, Mrs Rebecca Sheribu, Leah’s mother said, “the food and livelihood assistance given to us by Fadama III AF II project, had tremendously assisted the family in the time of its ordeal.
